TestFlight Beta Testing

TestFlight Beta Testing

TestFlight is Apple's official platform for beta testing iOS, iPadOS, and macOS applications. Before you release your app to the App Store, you should test it with real users to find bugs and gather feedback. TestFlight makes this process easy by letting you invite up to 10,000 testers using just their email addresses.

To use TestFlight, you first need to build your app and upload it to App Store Connect. You do this through Xcode or using the xcrun altool command. Once the build is uploaded, you can enable it for testing in App Store Connect. You can choose between internal testers, who are members of your Apple Developer team, and external testers, who can be anyone you invite.

Internal testing is immediate and does not require Beta App Review. You can have up to 100 internal testers, and they can test multiple builds. External testing requires a Beta App Review by Apple, which checks that your app follows the App Store guidelines. Once approved, you can invite up to 10,000 external testers. This review process is similar to the App Store review but is usually faster.

TestFlight provides valuable tools for gathering feedback. Testers can submit feedback directly through the TestFlight app, including screenshots and diagnostic logs. You can also use Crashlytics or other analytics tools to monitor crashes and performance issues. TestFlight builds expire after 90 days, so you need to upload new builds regularly if you are running a long-term beta program.
